OK. I guess I heard (or remembered) it wrong; Halqemeylem can't be that
different from Squamish.
Of course I'm used to the European model of language/geography where
neighbouring languages often share similar words with changed
prononciations and meanings that have remote, sometimes very remote, common
historical roots. It's sometimes hard to get a grasp on the "separateness"
of the Northwest language community, and how the families of words and
sounds remained apart; and a reminder why the Jargon came along as a common
speech, I suppose.
