Most likely; vowel/rhythm changes are common enough in the Jargon

What is a "mamet"?

Good question. Could this be of Shuswap or Thompson origin? Doesn't sound
like a familiar term from the Interior, at least not among non-natives
(although "Kokanee" now tends to refer as much to a brand of really good
beer as much as to land-locked salmon).
