Damn those "re's" in replies, huh? The joke here for those of you linguists
who know anything about demotic Greek is that "re" (pron. "ray") is a verbal
auxiliary that functions as something like an emphatic; "ade re" ('get it
moving', usually followed by an expletive), "gamoto re" (you don't want to
know); I've noticed another few uses of it in the last few days as my Greek
has been improving, but apparently (according to my indigenous sources) it's
always somewhat vulgar as a usage; not vulgar in the expletive sense; just
uncouth. But hey, I'm a Canuck, aren't I?

Reason for the second reply here is a slight irony; Fraser was confronted by
Russian muskets on his arrival in Setl, even though it is doubtful that
Russian traders ever reached that "fortress" on the Fraser. Makes one
wonder from which direction the Jargon term "musket" reached that country;
via Russian trade, perhaps, rather than from Boston or Pasiooks or
Kingchauch traders? Is the Russian word the same as elsewhere, does anyone
know?

As for British claims inland from the Panhandle, I think Lower Post and Old
Crow and other HBC subarctic installations are _quite_ old, almost as old as
New Caledonia itself; I think the rationale here is that more northerly furs
were more valuable; and that the terrain here favours northwestward
exploration, as opposed to routes towards the Pacific or the Columbia
Plateau.....
