ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF LINGUISTICS

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa
invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position (position
no.  83008), to begin August 1, 2001 or as soon as possible
thereafter, pending availability of position and funding.

The Linguistics Department of the University of Hawai'i has a
long-standing commitment to the study of Pacific and Asian languages,
creoles and pidgins, typological and functional approaches to
linguistics, and language acquisition.  Typical teaching arrangements
are two courses, either graduate or undergraduate, per semester, with
time for research.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD in linguistics or a related area (applicants presently pursuing a
PhD must offer evidence that all degree requirements will have been
completed by August 1, 2001).  The successful applicant will be
expected to have conducted high quality research, including field
work, and to have produced high quality publication, in
sociolinguistics and/or pidgin and creole languages.  Applicants must
be willing and able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the
area(s) of specialization.

MINIMUM SALARY:  $34,644  (currently under negotiation).
