Vesteinn, I can't help with native terms, but people did use such nets on the lower Columbia River. Meriwether Lewis says (Jan. 16, 1806, in G. Moulton _Jrnls. Lewis & Clark Exped._ (1990), p. 213): "The Clatsops Chinnooks &c. in fishing employ the Common Streight net, the Scooping or diping net with a long handle, the gig, and the hook and line."
