Khanawi-Laksta,
I was told by my elders that wishkah means "the stink river." They said "-qa" means river or water. To verify this for the reply I just checked Dale Kincade's Upper Chehalis Dictionary. He in fact gives "xwEshqa" as the proper name with the meaning of "stink river." (The E = schwa.) For those who don't know, Chehalis is a Salish language, and an obvious contributor to Chinuk Wawa.

I would like to know more about the meaning of the work "wishkah". There
is a river and town by this name on the Olympic Penninsula but I have
found few clues about the origin?meaning of the word.
