wext, after looking up several sources, the expression [tutuush] is of
Makah origin (where sh = s with a wedge).
tutuush 1) thundering, one of three thunderbird brothers, and 2) a
powerful chief identified with the island of Cape Flattery (Renker and
Gunther 1990).
the Museo de América in Madrid has a very nice etching of this Makah
chief, including several of his wives. it seems likely then that this
indigenous term is a co-ocurring reference with [tatoosh] of CJ and not
its source since no reference is made here to breasts, milk...teat,
etc.
Renker, Ann, and Erna Gunther.
1990 Makah. Northwest Coast, Handbook of North American Indians,
Vol. 7.
