In the draft paper on Nootka Jargon by Ross Clark many of you have
seen, he cites clemon/clamon from James Gibson 1992 (Otters
Skins, Boston Ships and China Goods) but proposes no origin, which
puts it clearly in the Nootka period.

Alexander Ross' s Vocabulary (circa 1812?) has clemel for "elk skin"
but not in the appendix "Mixed Dialect" list, which is largely Nootka.

The closest Nootka I can find in Sapir and Swedesh, Nootka Tales
(1939) is on their page 313,

L'ih-aq(w-).... 'skin, hide, fur, outer covering' .

[Crossed lamba with high apostrophe, i, underdot h, hyphen, a, q
(superscript w, hyphen)].

The "closest", I said, but alas not close enough.
