(3/15/03) PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon schools are required to teach
state history, but there are no textbooks dedicated just to the Beaver
State. So many teachers are going to a new Web site launched for them
last month by the Oregon Historical Society.

The site takes teachers and students directly to old letters, documents
and photos that give a firsthand version of Oregon's past.

Some of the unvarnished truth about the state's past isn't too pretty,
but it's all there.
