Another widespread CJ loan

...is the phrase 'cooked bread' from CJ /paya saplil/, <piah sapalil>.
I've found it in Tlingit and in Thompson Salish, for example.  In both
cases the CJ word for bread is used with a Native word for cooking.  Any
thorough study of CJ loans in the Northwest will have to take a look at
borrowed words and the phrases they occur in.

Compare the above with my claim that the post-contact Thompson Salish
suffix /-men/ 'profession(al)' may come from CJ.  Some of the Thompson
terms that use it actually look like CJ phrases.  (Or English ones, I
admit.)
