Mesachie Lake?

Hello,

One of our seniors here phoned me, and she knows some Jargon from her dad
(born 1886)--but she has a question:  Why is Mesachie Lake, near Victoria,
BC, called that?  Is it due to a particular historical event?

Anyone who has a clue to this, please reply.  I know the lady who asked
this question will be grateful.
