Subtitled "Indian Prayers of Southeast Vancouver Island," edited by David
L. Rozen, published 1977.  This is a fine collection of hymns and prayers
based on elders' memories, and includes Chinook Jargon materials.  The
late Christopher Paul, who was known to be a very good CJ speaker, was one
of the consultants.  A really useful document along the lines of "Quay-Lem
U En-Chow-Men," the Spokane language hymn collection.  Readable musical
transcriptions are provided.  The Salish title is misleading because both
Cowichan (Island Halkomelem) and Saanich versions of most items are
included.

A further CJ note:  The Kamloops Wawa word "styuil" or "styuilh"
meaning "to pray; a prayer" comes from a Coast Salish language, and is
related to the second word in the book's title.  A number of words in K.W.
seem to have been used in Jargon by Vancouver Island or Fraser River
Indians that the Oblate fathers had contact with before being sent to the
Interior to preach in CJ.
