The OED says:

Snookums: A trivial term of endearment, usu. applied to children or
lap-dogs.

1919 Ladies' Home Jrnl. May 153/1 Even ‘Snookums’ knows and appreciates
the soothing qualities of Johnson's Toilet and Baby Powder. 1928
Chambers's Jrnl. 21 Jan. 128/2 She is now a ‘city-lady’, with a couple
of dear little ‘snookums’.
