Naika tlus siks, naika tiki wawa kopa msaika.
In Kamloops Wawa #201, June 1902, on page 140, a procession in honor of
Mary and Joseph at the Syilx (Okanagan) village of Quilchena is described
this way:
"Tilikom lolo klahani ayu Chaina lantirns pi mamuk ayu Chinuk paia..."
("The people carried outside many Chinese lanterns and made lots of
Chinook fires...")
Am I translating this right?
Could this have been a misprint for "Chaina paia", which maybe
meant "fireworks"?
(Thanks to Janet Catterall of USask Libraries for the photocopy.)
