Shorthand and typewriters

Here's a neat historical quirk very few of us were probably aware of.
In the course of a literature search in the WorldCat database, I've come to
realize that in the 1800s, one and the same sort of person was interested
in both shorthand and typewriters.
Speed writing, you know.
Thus St. Onge's & Le Jeune's (for example) early interest in typewriters,
having been shorthanders for years.
More later. My baby's crying.
