James Gilchrist Swan drawings

Interesting drawings by James Gilchrist Swan in the Franz R. and Kathryn 
M. Stenzel collection of western American art, 1728-1966, which is 
online at the Yale Collection of Western Americana, Beinecke Rare Book 
and Manuscript Library...

Swan annotates his drawings very well, in nearly all cases adding words 
in local languages, as well as brief descriptions, often dates. There 
are scenic views, botanical and animals drawings, fairly lively drawings 
of life and ceremony, art, tattoos. The thing I appreciate the most is 
that he frequently includes people's names (living around Neah Bay in 
most cases, I think).
