Klahanie (street)

Thanks to some students in UVic's LING 401 class, I've learned that the
street name "Klahanie" in Victoria is pronounced "kluh-HAN-ee".

The stress has moved away from the first syllable, where it's located in
Jargon. The same thing happened with that neighborhood name in
Kamloops, "Sahali" ("suh-HAL-ee").

And the recent Canadian "short A" for "foreign A" is now used, though
originally the "A" sound seems to have been more like "ah" in most Jargon
varieties. Compare "Mazda" and "pasta" on each side of the border
nowadays...
