These guys are in my hometown, Spokane, Washington.  I noticed them there 
the same week I picked up a copy of Jack Nisbet's book "Mapmaker's Eye" 
about David Thompson, which also discusses various canoes of the fur trade 
in some detail.

The Spokane guys also offer classes in canoemaking.  Excellent.
