David Lewis's article will have a lot more detail,
but here are a few spellings from my CW files:

Gass (March 9, 11, 1806): ulken `small fish'.

R. Stuart (June, 1812; see K. Spaulding, ed., 1953:33):
Uth-le-chan `a fish like a smelt, 6" long, very fat
-- Indians burn it like a candle -- and delicious'
[This spelling suggests that the lateral is a fricative,
and the spellings "lh" and "lk" and possibly even
"lch" below may also indicate a lateral fricative.]

Pinart (1849:283): oulhan [with a short mark over the a]
    `espece de petit poisson gras'

Shaw (1909:51): oolchus `herring'.
