These are both just romanizations, Guangdong being in the pinyin  
system now standard in the PRC, Kwangtung being in the older  
Wade-Giles.  Wade-Giles is still in use, e.g. in many English-language  
publications on Chinese philosophy.  Taiwan has officially gone to  
pinyin, but many there still refuse to use it, so Wade-Giles is by no  
means dead even in the Chinese-speaking world.  A bit off topic here.
