Origin of "Coquille"?

..which is itself from Canadian French.
I do wonder if Coquille is a backformation from Coquilles/Coquelles, which is a gallicised spelling of Hanis Coos gugwis (Not sure of the diacritics) 'south'.

I'd thought "Coquille" might be from "lakwachi" (CJ word for some sort of
