Klaskanine

This Oregon placename is a variant of Clatskanie, as Bright notes in his
2007 book on Native American placenames.  But might it have been
contaminated by settlers' knowledge of Jargon?  Could there have been some
folk-etymology involving "klaska" ("they")?

I'd thought this was once discussed on our list, but I'm not finding a
reference in our archives.
