Corpora: Free text collections?

Dear colleagues,

CL students of the Ruhr-Universitaet Bochum (Germany) doing a course on
Text Mining and Information Retrieval are looking for *free* text collections
which can be used as raw data for preparation a text corpus.

The texts must be in German (preferred) or English.

We would appreciate any appropriate links.
