Don't know if this is of any help. It's entitled "Comprehension, 
Coherence and Strategies in Hypertext and Linear Text", by Peter W. 
Foltz, Mexico State University

There is mention there of research into the role of titles in 
comprhension (Bransford & Johnson, 1972) and as nodes in hypertexts.
