                        OntoLex'2000
        Workshop on Ontologies and Lexical Knowledge Bases
           Supported by Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

               Sept. 8-10, 2000:  Sozopol, Bulgaria

The workshop will be an immediate follow up of the CLaRK'2000
Summer School on Computational Linguistics and Represented
Knowledge, which will take place in the period 25.08.2000 to
8.09.2000 at the Flagman hotel, Sozopol (see
http://www.sfs.nphil.uni-tuebingen.de/clark/ss2000.html).

GOALS:

The workshop aims to bring together researchers and students
interested in the dependencies between formal ontologies and
lexical semantics in general, and more specifically in the
construction of lexical knowledge bases.  Among the issues
discussed will also be the various applications of lexical
semantics to information retrieval, information extraction and
related fields.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME:

The workshop will include invited lectures and talks, research
presentations, student sessions, posters and discussions.

CALL for RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS and STUDENTS SESSIONS:

To provide an opportunity for broader access and participation of
all interested scientists, the organisers plan sessions of research
presentations as well as a student session.
Research presentations will be 30 min. long.
Student presentations will be 20 min. long.
There will be also poster sessions.
In all cases, abstracts of no more than 1000 words
should be submitted.

DISCUSSIONS:

There will be three 1 hour discussions, on the following topics:
- modelling regular polysemy in lexical knowledge bases;
- lexical concepts vs. world knowledge, upper-level ontologies;
- ontologies and lexical knowledge bases for Information Retrieval.

Deadline for abstracts of research presentations: 30 June
Notification of acceptance: 20 July

All the applications and submissions should contain the following
information:

To be sent via e-mail before 30th of June as a free text
containing the following information:
 - names, sex, degrees (status)
 - affiliation
 - related publications
 - address (both e-, and regular, tel., fax, etc.)
 - talk submitted or not (title)

In addition, the application for participation should contain also
a statement of interest (motivation to take part) - an essay of
not more than 500 words.

All the submissions (registration forms, statements of interest
and abstracts) should be send by e-mail to the following

One of the following formats should be used for the abstracts:
plain text, TeX, LaTeX, RTF/DOC, HTML.  For TeX and LaTeX

ACCOMMODATION:

The workshop will take place in the town of Sozopol, Bulgaria.
Sozopol is one of the best summer resorts on the Black Sea coast,
famous for its unique mixture of ancient Greek culture, Bulgarian
traditional atmosphere (18th century), excellent climate and
entertainment facilities.  In addition, it is the favourite place
of Bulgarian artists, both for performances and for relaxation.
It is situated to the south of Bourgas (to be reached by plane -
Bourgas Airport, trains - Bourgas Railway Station, or intercity
buses).  It takes 40 minutes to reach Sozopol from Bourgas with
the buses and minibuses that run regularly.

The Workshop will take place in hotel "Flagman".  For
accommodation, the participants can choose among hotel "Flagman",
which is relatively expensive but luxurious, and a number of other
options available in Sozopol:  cheaper (but still good) hotels,
and rooms in private houses.  The organizers can arrange
reservations for hotel "Flagman" and provide assistance with the
rest of the options.

Double room:
         For foreigners:                 41 BGL per bed
         For Bulgarians:                 28 BGL per bed

Single room:
         For foreigners:                 63 BGL

Approx. prices for other hotels/private rooms: 10-30 BGL per
night.
Approx. expenses for meals, etc.: 10-30 BGL per day.

Registration fee:  100 BGL.  Students and participants from Central
and Eastern Europe will be eligible for a reduced fee of 25 BGL.
