Sorry for multiple copies

Dear colleagues,

We should like to take this opportunity to ask you if you could circulate the two following issues, with further details enclosed in corresponding attachments.

[From listadm: attachments here:

http://helmer.hit.uib.no/corpora/attachments/pbnsbook.pdf
]

One contains the First Call of the Second International Contrastive Linguistics Conference (ICLCII), contrasts within and between languages, to be held at the University of Santiago Compostela, Spain, from 25th to 27th October 2001: we want it to be open and comprehensive (for details, see the file attached).

Also attached are the details of a Theme-Topic-Focus-and discourse-structure related book just released by John Benjamins, which can be opened with Adobe Acrobat reader, a tool you can download from the following webpage www.adobe.com/acrobat (I hope). In case you can´t open it, here you have some information about the book: "The Theme-Topic Interface: Evidence from English", Pragmatics and Beyond NS, 71. 2000 Hb. ca. xxiv, 425 pp. + index 90 272 5086 3 NLG 158.00 1 55619 949 X USD 79.00. It offers a cognitive-discourse-functional approach to such discourse categories as Topic, Theme, Focus, Given-New information to give, in Part II, a substantiation of these insights, mainly the prominence of initial position, in natural spoken English using multivariant statistical tests for significance.
BEST and THANKS IN ADVANCE :-)
