Purpose
Working with other staff the Computational Linguist should help to build and
promote research expertise in the area of computer text analysis,
classification, context understanding, automated text generation and
inference. They should prepare investigations on defined research themes,
carry out structured research into the area, prepare demonstration systems,
write technical reports and white-papers, present seminars and help in the
training of other members of staff.
Job or Role Responsibilities:
1. Research & development of text analysis, context
understanding and automated text generation techniques
2. Development of software prototypes and demonstrators
3. Preparation of technical reports, research & white-papers
4. Preparation of seminar materials and presentation to other
staff
5. Liaison with other technical staff
6. Co-ordination of internal & external student projects
7. Project management
Type of Degree and Experience:
Good first degree in Computer Science, Maths, Physics, Engineering,
Psychology, Statistics or other numerate discipline.
PhD or 2 years research experience in text analysis with good knowledge of
clustering, classification and related areas. Should ideally have a strong
research publication record.
