Canon Research Centre Europe (CRE) has a position for a top quality
researcher for its Information Retrieval activities.
Overview
You will be working as part of a group that develops document
retrieval technologies for Canon products and investigates advanced
retrieval approaches to support future products. You will also play a
key role in advancing the research and development programme of the
group. Ideally, you will have sound knowledge of information retrieval
techniques and the application of natural language processing to such
technologies. Experience of multilingual information systems would be
beneficial.
Job specification
o To perform research and development on advanced information
retrieval, natural language processing and user interface
technology
o To develop and initiate first class research into multimedia
information retrieval
Requirements
o First class academic background: PhD (or equivalent level of
experience) in information retrieval, natural language processing
or closely related discipline
o Proven track record of initiating and developing new research
projects
o The ability to work with internal or external customers
o Good software engineering skills in a variety of programming
languages, especially C++ and Java
Desirable
o Experience of full project lifecycle and product-level software
development
o Proven publication record
o Expertise in the areas of:
- multilingual information systems
- document markup languages
- HCI
- statistical information processing
