Corpora: definition of anaphoric coreference

Hi 

I'm looking into the background of computing and the tagging of anaphoric coreference within english text.  I've searched the web, and cannot find a full description of anaphoric coreference.  I was wondering if anyone had a full definition, and also if they new of tools being used for the tagging of anaphoric coreference.
