Corpora: Relatve text length

A similar question that interests me is how to measure which
languages are 'faster' or 'slower' in speech. How much time
does it take to utter parallel texts in various languages? Surely
you would have to define a standard speech tempo in each of them,
and there would be a lot of caveats, yet I think it should be possible
to do research and get some reasonable results. (Or, perhaps the
subject has been researched already? At the moment I'm not aware
of any extensive study. Any hints?)
