Announcement:
Special issue of the journal
"Southern African Linguistics and Applied Language Studies"
with the theme
"Language Technology in Southern Africa: resources and applications"

Although computational linguistics and the development of language technology resources and applications are already established fields of research for many years in other parts of the world, it is only in the past few years that these fields became more popular in the Southern African community. Not only do academic scholars show a growing interest in Natural Language Processing, Corpus Linguistics and Computational Linguistics, but there is also a budding awareness on governmental and industrial level of how  language technology can benefit the broader society.

For this special theme issue of "Southern African Linguistics and Applied Language Studies" we invite scholarly articles, reporting or reflecting on:
** the current state of the art of language technological resources and applications in Southern Africa;
** completed and ongoing research in Natural Language Processing, Corpus Linguistics, and Computational Linguistics, specifically with reference to the languages used in Southern Africa; 
** the past, present, and future of language technology in Southern Africa.
