Under the supervision of two staff members (a psychologist and a linguist)

sub-project ''Global discourse markers in L1 and L2 writing'' in which we
propose to study the use of global discourse markers (metadiscourse,
segmentation, digression) in L1 and L2 writing (Dutch and French) from a
twofold perspective: production - which signals does the writer use to help
the reader reach a shared mental representation ' and comprehension -'
which signals will have a positive impact on the readers comprehension of
the text. Two main research lines are planned:
RESEARCH LINE 1: THE USE OF GLOBAL DISCOURSE MARKERS AS REVEALING
CROSS-LINGUISTIC AND DEVELOPMENTAL FACTORS IN SECOND-LANGUAGE LEARNING
RESEARCH LINE 2: THE IMPACT OF GLOBAL DISCOURSE MARKERS ON TEXT
COMPREHENSION IN L1 AND L2.
