A "semantic tagset" derived from word-definitions in LDOCE
(Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English) is described in

George Demetriou and Eric Atwell. 2001. A domain-independent semantic tagger
for the study of meaning associations in English text. In Harry Bunt, Ielka
van der Sluis and Elias Thijsse (editors), Proceedings of the Fourth
International Workshop on Computational Semantics (IWCS-4) pp.67-80.
Tilburg, Netherlands. http://www.comp.leeds.ac.uk/eric/iwcs.ps

and
Xiao Yuan Duan and Eric Atwell. 2002. Semantic Association between Web Pages -
a Lexical Knowledge Based Method. In: Proceedings of the 5th Annual CLUK
Colloquium: Computational Linguistics in the United Kingdom, (CLUK 2002,
University of Leeds, UK), pp.66 -76, 2002.

A different semantic tagger, much more PRACTICAL as it comes integrated
into a web-based easy-to-use interface allowing you to upload and
tag your own corpus texts, is described in

Rayson, P. (2003). Matrix: A statistical method and software tool for
linguistic analysis through corpus comparison. Ph.D. thesis, Lancaster
University.

Or better still, come to Corpus Linguistics 2003 (28-31 March) and meet Paul
in person at Lancaster! - http://www.comp.lancs.ac.uk/ucrel/cl2003/
