4th Dutch-Belgian Information Retrieval Workshop

The fourth Dutch-Belgian Workshop on Information Retrieval will take
place on 8 and 9 December 2003 at CWI in Amsterdam. The keynote
speakers will include Charlie Clarke (University of Waterloo) on
`Robust and Reliable Information Retrieval,' Bjørn Olstad (FAST
Search, to be confirmed), and Bonnie Webber (University of
Edinburgh) on `QA Research at the University of Edinburgh.'
The primary aim of the workshop is to provide a meeting
place where researchers from the Netherlands and Belgium (and
neighboring countries) who are working in the domain of information
retrieval and related disciplines can exchange information and present
new research developments.

Final call for papers

Authors who are interested in presenting original research at the
workshop are invited to submit papers on or before October 1,
2003. Papers should be maximum 6 pages long, and formatted in ACM SIG
Proceedings style (available from
 http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html). Submissions will
be reviewed by at least two domain experts. Papers can cover any topic
related to IR, including

     * Retrieval models, language models
     * Text representation, information extraction, text summarization,
       text categorization, topic tracking and event detection
     * Query processing, thesaurus construction, user models
     * Cross-language IR
     * IR for the Web, XML and metadata, link analysis
     * Multimedia IR, video retrieval, audio retrieval
     * Question answering systems
     * Domain-specific IR applications
     * IR evaluation

Papers may range from theoretical work to system-descriptions. We
especially welcome contributions from industry.

Submit papers electronically, preferably in PDF format, to
ir at science.uva.nl .

Important dates

Deadline for papers: October 1, 2003
Notification of acceptance: November 1, 2003
Deadline for final versions: November 25, 2003
Workshop: December 8 and 9, 2003
