[Corpora-List] BNC online down???

Dear Stella and others,

I don't know what's wrong with the BNC Search system, but I thought of two other online concordancing options you might want to consider, not to replace the BNC (and BoE) but maybe to complement it.
1. MICASE online at http://www.hti.umich.edu/m/micase/; you can search the Michigan Corpus of Academic Spoken English (roughly 2 mio. tokens) online and specify different speaker and speech attributes
2. WebCorp at http://www.webcorp.org.uk/ which retrieves concordances from the Web

Let's hope the BNC and COBUILD problems are only temporary (the Collins website asks us to "be patient"). The Bank of English being down got me in quite some trouble too as I had told my students to use the online concordance and collocations sampler to retrieve data for their research projects...

Best wishes... Ute

  Colleagues,

Does anyone happen to know what's the matter with the BNC online version? I haven't been able to access for a few days.

Hope it's nothing serious! What with Cobuild "out of the game" (temporarily, I hope), we'd be left with no online corpora for English!

Or does anyone know of other corpora available on the Web?

  Thanks for any light!

  Stella
