2nd Call for Papers – Deadline for sending proposals extended to 17th May

ABRAPT (the Brazilian Association of Translation Researchers) and the State
University of Ceará (UECE) are pleased to announce


The 9th National Translation Forum and the 3rd Brazilian International
Translation Forum
30 August – 3 September 2004

Media, Teaching and Translation

New communication and information technologies allow man to overcome barriers
of
time and space. Translation also plays an important role in this task. The
conference aims to bring academics and students together with experts in the
field in order to discuss the many aspects involved in the translation for the
media, in the relationship between translation and language teaching, in the
teaching of translation, and in the theoretical issues raised by these
discussions in the different sub-areas of translation studies.

Ponta Mar Hotel, Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, 30 August – 3 September 2004

The congress will be held in Fortaleza, capital of the state of Ceará in the
Northeast of Brazil, a pleasant beach resort with a hot, dry climate. Very
economical packages including flight and hotel can be obtained to Fortaleza
from many European cities.

The State University of Ceará is a leading university in the Northeast of
Brazil.

The congress will cover the following sub-areas of translation studies

1.        Literary Translation and Historiography
2.        Poststructuralism
3.        Media
4.        Terminology
5.        Teaching and evaluation
6.        Discourse
7.        Corpus Linguistics
8.        Interpretation

Visiting speakers will include
Jorge Díaz Cintas (Surrey Roehampton), Ana Ballester  (Granada), Sue Atkins &
Michael Rundell (Brighton), Belinda Maia (Porto), Ana Frankenberg-Garcia (ISLA,
Lisbon), Arnt Lykke Jakobsen (Copenhagen Business School), Amparo Hurtado
(Autónoma de Barcelona), Malcolm Coulthard (Birmingham) and Franz Pöchhacker
(Vienna).

The Congress will take place at the same time as the 6th Ceará Book Exhibition
and some activities will be held jointly

REGISTRATION

To submit a paper to the Conference, please send title and abstract (max. 300
words, single-spaced, Times New Roman 12) by May 17th, 2004

Papers may be given in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French.

Please say which area of the conference you wish your paper to be included in.

DEADLINES AND FEES
Participants from abroad will be charged a flat fee of $US100 or EUR100 to be
paid on arrival.
