Project description: The position is within a highly interdisciplinary project with participants
from bioinformatics, corpus linguists, and historical linguists. The aim is to explore the
application of
phylogenetic methods/bioinformatics algorithms to the study of language change and language tree
reconstruction, and methods for storing and retrieving complex annotations in databases. One
short-term goal is help in the preparation of a proposal for a diachronic
corpus of German.

Applicants must be willing to work in an interdisciplinary team. Knowledge in computational
linguistics and especially statistical methods in linguistics is a must.
Knowledge either in the area of string and phylogenetic algorithms or in XML and query languages
for corpora would be highly appreciated. Knowledge of German and historical linguistics is a plus.

Projektbeschreibung: Das Projekt 'Komplexe Datenbasen' ist ein interdisziplinäres Projekt mit
Forschern und Forscherinnen aus Informatik, Korpuslinguistik und historischer Linguistik. Wir
erforschen die Anwendung von phylogenetischen/bioinformatischen Methoden zum zur Berechnung von
Sprachverwandtschaft und zur Konstruktion von Abstammungsbäumen
können. Des weiteren erwarten wir Unterstützung bei der Vorbereitung eines Antrags für ein
diachrones Korpus des Deutschen (der Antrag ist bereits weitgehend fertig).

Der Bewerber/die Bewerberin sollte ein starkes Interesse an interdisziplinärer Arbeit haben.
Kenntnisse von Annotationsmethoden und statistischen Methoden zum Vergleich von Zeichenketten oder
Bäumen sind eine Voraussetzung. Kenntnis des Deutschen und ein Interesse an historischer
Linguistik sind ein Plus.
