The Scottish Corpus of Texts and Speech (SCOTS) Project is delighted to
announce an update to our online corpus, at www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk, on 20
May 2005. This update offers a greater number and range of texts, and
improved functionality for corpus research.

The latest version of the Corpus now includes 515 texts (a total of nearly
750,000 words), in a range of genres, including informal correspondence,
prose fiction and non-fiction, poetry, religious texts. A number of new
transcriptions of spoken texts (conversations and interviews) are also
available, with accompanying audio/video files. Spoken language makes up
just over 20% of the corpus.

Other improved features of this latest update include:

* wildcard word/phrase searching
* improved results list, with flexible ordering
* improved navigation between word/phrase occurrences
* improved synchronisation of multimedia files with orthographic
transcriptions
* a basic key word in context display (we hope to provide a full concordance
facility in the next update)

We encourage users to give us feedback on the SCOTS resource through our
webform.

with kind regards,

The SCOTS team
