PhD Studentships

The School of Languages and Social Sciences at 
Aston University is offering several studentships 
to enable candidates to undertake fully funded 
research in any of the School’s areas of academic 
endeavour. The School’s vibrant research culture 
(Grade 5 rating in the last RAE) provides a 
stimulating intellectual environment. 
Studentships include maintenance at AHRC rates, 
currently £10,500 per annum and the waiving of 
University fees, EU £3,010, non-EU £8,050).

Applicants are invited in the following 
areas:  Corpus Linguistics, Discourse Analysis, 
European Cultural and Political Studies, French 
Studies, German Studies, International Relations, 
Lexicography, Media Studies, 
Pragmatics/Semantics, Sociology, Spanish Studies, 
TESOL and Translation Studies.

Applications should contain a CV, a 2-3,000 word 
research proposal and the names of two academic 
referees and should be addressed to Ms Sue Cade, 
to reach her at the very latest by January 13th 
2006.  To speed up the process referees should be 
asked to send their references immediately, by 
post or by email, to Ms Cade,

Successful candidates will be invited to start as 
soon as they are able to and once they have 
settled in will be expected to make a teaching 
contribution of up to four hrs p/w and to provide 
research assistance to supervisors and/or 
convenors of relevant research centres of up to 2 hours p/w.
