                            The Second PASCAL
                Recognising Textual Entailment Challenge
                                WORKSHOP
                    April 10, 2006 Venice, Italy

                          Call for Participation

************************************************************************

The workshop of the 2nd Recognizing Textual Entailment (RTE) PASCAL
Challenge will be held on Monday, April 10, 2006, in Venice, on the first
day of the PASCAL Challenges workshop. The workshop is scheduled right after
the EACL conference, which will be held in near by Trento on April 3-7. It
will be followed by two other PASCAL Challenges Workshops, of the
"Unsupervised Segmentation of Words into Morphemes" and "Exploration versus
Exploitation" challenges.

Textual entailment recognition is a generic framework for modeling applied
semantic inference. The 2nd RTE Challenge benchmark attracted 23 submissions
from groups around the world, which have been investigating practical
semantic methods within different application areas. A rich variety of
methods were developed, ranging from lexical and syntactic matching to deep
semantic logic-based inference, while utilizing both manually developed
resources and learning-based methods. The workshop will include
presentations of the participating groups, analysis of the current challenge
and planning of future benchmarks.
