[Corpora-List] Xaira for Linux?

Has anybody been able to compile Xaira on Linux?
I've been trying to compile versions 1.18 and 1.17 of Xaira on Debian
stable, Linux kernel 2.6.15-1-686 -- to no avail. After apparently
successful ./configure, make quickly produces an error.[1]
Xaira FAQ page mentions the question "How do I use Xaira on a Linux
desktop?", but does not provide an answer.
Xaira Current Status page mentions "an email list for early adopters",
but the subscription form asks me to choose between versions of
Windows, saying "Sorry, the software will not run on [...] non-Windows
platforms".
I'll be grateful for any hints on where to look for help.
Best,
Adam P.
