2nd Call for Papers: Speaker Classification (Project Part)
for a book edited by Christian Müller and Susanne Schötz

To achieve an optimal balance of topics, we still call for contributions (see 
restricted list of topics below).

* Introduction *

Christian Müller from the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence 
and Susanne Schötz from the University of Lund (Sweden) are editing a 
collection on speaker classification which is published by Springer in the 
LNCS/LNAI series (section 'State-of-the-Art surveys' respectively 
'Hot-Topics'). In parallel to the printed book, it is published in full-text 
electronic form via the Springer internet platform www.springerlink.com.

We invite contributions in a variety of areas related to speaker 
classification, including artificial intelligence (machine learning, pattern 
classification), natural language technology as well as phonetics. The term 
speaker classification is thereby defined as the process of assigning a 
vector of speech features to a discrete speaker class. 

* What is the 'Project Part' ? *

In contrast to the 'conceptual part' which encompasses overview and 
introductory chapters, the project part incorporates separate and 
self-contained contributions of specific speaker classification projects. The 
formats and dimensions are projected to be comparable with journal articles 
or full conference papers. The papers are selected by the editors according 
to their quality, their relevance for the book as well as the general 
diversification of topics. In comparison to conference proceedings, the 
contributions of the project part of this book will be more comparable and 
contain more cross-references. They aim to provide examples of the concepts 
described in the first part. Authors should therefore allow an editorial 
loop.

The topics which are marked (*) qualify for a later submission due (see 
below). 

identifying the speakers identity
accent identification
dialect identification
sociolect identification*
language identification*
age and gender recognition
emotion recognition*
recognition of cognitive state (e.g. working memory load)*
acquiring any other kind of information about the speaker on the basis of 
her/his speech or speaking behavior*

Please note that we explicitly allow contributions that have already been 
published in conference proceedings or journals. Novel papers are welcome as 
well, of course. If you submit an abstract of already published concepts, 
please refer to the proceedings or journal.

* Submission Procedure *
If you are interested in contributing to the book, please send an abstract to 
Christian.Muellerdfki.de. The abstract has not to be formatted. Feel free to 
send .doc, .pdf, .txt or .tex files. 
* Important Dates *

abstract submissions due:		April 30, 2006. 
For specific topics (see above): 	June 30, 2006.

notification of acceptance:		June 1, 2006
For specific topics (see above): 	July 15, 2006

full paper manuscripts due:		August 1, 2006
For specific topics (see above): 	August 31st, 2006

camera read versions due: 		open, scheduled for September 2006
publication of the book:			open, scheduled for October 2006

* Formatting Instructions *

For formatting the full manuscripts, please follow the formatting instructions 
provided by Springer. Follow this link:

The contributions must not be longer than 15 pages. 


* Additional Instructions for Authors *

1) due dates 
As indicated above, the due dates for the full version of the project part 
articles is August the 1st while the conceptual part chapters are due August 
the 31st. To provide a consistent cross referencing throughout the book, the 
conceptual part authors will need some time to integrate the specific topics 
of your articles into their chapters. I kindly ask you to indicate as soon as 
possible if you don't manage to complete your article until August 1st. 

2) editorial loop 
For the same reasons (cross referencing and consistency) it might be necessary 
to introduce an editorial loop which means that your article might be altered 
slightly by the editors. Of course, the alterations will be sent to you for 
approval.

3) copyrights 
We explicitly allowed articles that describe already published work. If that 
is the case with your article, please make sure, that no copyright from 
previous publications are violated. Please indicate the original publication 
as a footnote on the first page of your article.
