Excellent point!
But I think it's just that the personal anecdote is at the tip of
one's brain when
reading emails, whereas the 'corpus-lookup' is not an immediate option...
...and there is no obvious parallel corpus of Br-Am Eng to consult...
Do you know of one by any chance...
..as it's a topic that Constantin and I started working on a bit
(eg Complex01 at B'ham Uni - the Globalization of Business English),
and hope to continue at some point in the future ..
Consulting research papers is also not an immediate option;
I probably have several on this topic, but to remember which ones,
and to locate them would not be a trivial task...
so perhaps we will get the more considered, academic replies
in a few days' time?
