PALC 2007: Practical Applications in Language and Computers
19-22 April 2007, University of Łódź, Poland

Theme session:

TOWARDS A LARGE REFERENCE CORPUS OF POLISH

Convenor: Adam Przepiórkowski (Institute of Computer Science, Polish
Academy of Sciences)

The aim of this thematic session of  the  6th  international  conference  on
Practical  Applications  in  Language and Computers  is  to  bring  together
researchers  working  on  Polish corpora  and  to review  the possibility of
increasing the interoperability between these resources.

The following topics are within the scope of the session (the list is not
meant to be exhaustive):

    . Development and maintenance of Polish corpora;
    . Measures of representativeness of Polish corpora;
    . Linguistic, structural and metadata annotation of Polish corpora;
    . Interoperability between various Polish corpora;
    . Tools for managing and querying Polish corpora;
    . Web as a Polish corpus.

This session will also include a report on efforts aiming  at  the  creation
of a large reference corpus of Polish, recently undertaken by  a  number  of
institutions (including the PWN Publisher, PELCRA at the University of  Łódź
and the Institute of Computer Science at the Polish Academy of Sciences).

The official languages of the session will be English and  Polish.  One-page
abstracts of submissions (including references), in English  or  in  Polish,
should be sent to adamp at ipipan.waw.pl by 31 January, 2007, preferably  as  a
PDF attachment (other acceptable formats: plain text in UTF-8 or one of ISO-
8859 encodings, Word for Windows). Notification of acceptance will  be  sent
by 15 February 2007. Please,  give  your  affiliation,  postal  address  and
phone/fax numbers. A selection of papers will be published  by  Peter  Lang:
Frankfurt am Main.
