The Center for the Automatic Treatment of Language (CENTAL) in  
Louvain-la-Neuve
(University of Louvain, UCL, Belgium) is seeking:

A Computational Linguist

for a full-time position of indeterminate length,
starting September 2007.

The CENTAL is a research center associated with the College of  
Philosophy and
Letters and specializes in the computational treatment of languages.   
The center
is active in both research and teaching.  It also collaborates with  
several
others research centers of the Catholic University of Louvain on  
projects to
which it brings its expertise on matters concerning the computational  
treatment
of texts.  The CENTAL is involved with numerous research projects on  
a national
and international level as well.

Description of Position:

- Responsible for the development of the center with regards to  
specialized
   advances in computer science and assume a role of coordination of
   projects (60%);

- Be up to date with technological advancements in the area of Automatic
   Treatment of Language and provide advice to the CENTAL and to  
collaborators
   at the Catholic University of Louvain (10%);

- Manage the linguistic resources of the CENTAL while improving and  
increasing
   them (15%);

- Contribute to the installation, configuration, and maintenance of  
system
   infrastructures and identify prospective needs (15%).

Qualifications and skills necessary:

- Bachelor's/Master's in Computer Science with in-depth knowledge of
   Linguistics (complementary degree or relevant experience) or
   Bachelor's/Master's in Linguistics or Philology with in-depth  
knowledge
   of Computer Science (complementary degree or relevant experience).

- The candidate should have experience or knowledge in the domain of  
Automatic
   Treatment of Language and if possible in: text algorithms; Web  
programming
   (client/server and crawlers); databases.

- Knowledge in:

Programming: Java / C / Prolog / Perl, Php, Python.
Databases: SQL Server / MySql.
Platforms: Windows & Linux.

A command of one or more foreign languages is a plus.
