I do agree with the courtesy argument, though, and I also respect the 
conditions specified in the list's description, which do not
mention debate among the priorities. Should the practice be established 
that longer discussions are supposed to move off to other venues, I 
would appreciate if the main discussants informed the subscribers of 
that. Personally, though, I'd prefer a list that is alive and 
argumentative to one that concentrates on technicalities and 
announcements only. Susan Hunston wrote: "Corpus linguists can be very 
partisan ..." (Corpora and Applied Linguistics, 2002:95), and I think 
our contrasting passions are reflected most distinctly in this 
meta-exchange.
