Research Fellow in Bio-text Mining - National Centre for Text Mining and
School of Computer Science, University of Manchester

 

We are looking for one research fellow in text mining to work for a new
BBSRC funded project at the National Centre for Text Mining
(www.nactem.ac.uk) in text mining for systems biology (ONDEX project
http://ondex.sourceforge.net/). 

 

The post is available immediately and ends in April 2011. 

 

The successful candidate will be part of the growing team of researchers
associated with both NaCTeM as well as with several systems biology centres
in the UK.

 

Essential skills: a PhD in Computer Science or closely related area and a
good first degree in an area relevant to the job description as well as
excellent software engineering skills. The ability to develop algorithms and
software for NLP/Text mining systems and to produce experiments for text
mining applications using large data sets.  Excellent knowledge of natural
language processing/text mining using machine learning techniques and in
particular named entity recognition, parsing, information extraction;
excellent knowledge of C, C++, Java, XML, Windows, Linux and Web Services. A
strong publication record is a must. Experience with biomedical text mining
is highly desirable.
