You can generate such lists from the BNC on my Phrases in English site:
 
http://pie.usna.edu/explore.html
(if that doesn't work use
 <http://phrasesinenglish.org/explore.html>
http://phrasesinenglish.org/explore.html )
 
Select 1-grams and the appropriate POS tag for each list you need
 
Alternatively, use 
http://pie.usna.edu/simplesearchTab.html
for tab-separated output.

Hi,

Can anyone point me to free, downloadable lists of English nouns, verbs,
adjectives, and adverbs--each a separate list.
The sites mentioned by Maxwell and Laura  in their postings about
electronic dictionaries don't seem to  have links to such lists.
