Another anecdote: Karl Marx tended to write in long sentences,
and translations seem to respect that.  As a college freshman,
I was much dismayed to find sentences that were half a page
or a page long, as these would be rather impenetrable.  I refer
to the Manuscripts of 1844; I beleive the Communist Manifesto
was written precisely because the Manuscripts were so dense.
