University of Roma Tre, Rome, Italy – 23-26 September 2008

(Im)politeness in Spanish: Theoretical and methodological backgrounds
In honour of Diana Bravo on her recent sixtieth birthday


EDICE Programme (Studies of Politeness Discourse in Spanish) of
Stockholm University informs that the IV International Colloquium of
EDICE Programme will be held on the 23rd to the 26th September 2008 at
the University of Roma Tre (Rome, Italy), with the support of the
Department of Linguistics at the University of Roma Tre.



Areas of study
The thematic areas of study, all focused on Spanish Language, for this
colloquium are:

-	Theoretical and methodological studies of (im)politeness in the Romance world
-	(Im)politeness in political discourse
-	(Im)politeness in the media
-	Cyber(im)politeness
-	(Im)politeness and publicity
-	(Im)politeness and gender
-	(Im)politeness and multimodality
-	(Im)politeness, interaction and grammar
-	Verbal and non-verbal politeness learning and acquisition
-	(Im)politeness and language acquisition by Spanish-speaking immigrants

One section will be dedicated entirely to Italian studies with invited
speakers. The official languages for this colloquium are Spanish and
Italian. The Scientific Committee will also consider communications
delivered in English if necessary.

Plenary Speakers
José Luis Blas Arroyo (Universidad Jaume I), María Elena Placencia
(Birbeck College, University of London), Anna De Fina (Georgetown
University).

Academic and optional activities
Academic activities will be realized on Tuesday 23rd, Wednesday 24th
on Friday 26th. On Thursday 25th, participants will be occupied in:
optional activities (all information will be given
in the 3rd call), Members' meeting at 17,00 and the social dinner.

Submission of abstracts and registration: 15 April 2008
Acceptance of abstracts: 15 May 2008
Early-bird registration deadline: 30 May 2008 (€100)
Registration fee: €150 (regular); €20 (student)
Conference: 23-26 September 2008

Submission of abstracts and pre-registration
Communications will last 20 minutes. All abstracts must be submitted
electronically to edice2008 at uniroma3.it before the 15th of April 2008.
Together with the abstract, researchers should also submit a
registration form to the same e-mail address. Abstracts should not
exceed an A4 paper (Times, 12). The body of the abstract should
include:
- title of the presentation;
- author(s)' name(s);
- affiliation;
- thematic area;
- bibliographic references;
- author(s)' email.

Registration
Enrolment and payment should be done before the 30th of May 2008.
Payment is electronically in the following website:

Enrolment fee is €100,00 for speakers and participants who enrol until
the 30th of May. After this date, the enrolment fee will be €150,00.
This includes:
-	Conference materials.
-	Three lunch vouchers.
-	Five coffee vouchers.
The enrolment fee for undergraduates, graduates and Ph.D. students
will be €20,00. This covers the certificate of assistance only.

Conference Site
The Conference will be held at the "Aula Magna" of the "Rettorato" of
the University Roma Tre, via Ostiense 163 (Metro B, Stop San Paolo).

Wednesday 24th September	Work Session
Thursday 25th September	Excursion. Members' Assembly and Social Dinner.
Friday 26th September	Work Session. Closing Conference and balance.

Participants interested in making Hotel reservations can contact the

and pay one night anticipated.
